Online casino software

What is online gambling software?

Remote Gaming Servers (RGS) or Player Account Management systems (PAM) are software applications designed to run online casino’s.

Players sign up, make deposits, withdraw winnings, and manage their accounts on the RGS system and where administrator manage their online casino businesses.

What is it used for?

Gambling companies use online casino software in order to offer a B2C service (to players) or a B2B service to casino companies who run their business under a white label, turn key, self service, sports betting or Bitcoin casino arrangement.

Third party casino games

Online RNG casinos

If you want to run a successful online casino make sure the RGS software you are using is reliable and is able to offer a wide variety of games such as:

  • RNG casino games or slots, crash and table games
  • Multi-player card games such as Poker.
  • E-Sports providers, CS Go
  • Sports betting products
  • Custom games

It must also be able to offer certain administration services such as:

  • GEO Blocking
  • Fraud detection
  • Responsible gambling (self exclusion, time outs, etc.)
  • KYC controls

A developer will likely want to build their own client facing application and for this reason the RGS must make this easy to do.

Sports betting, lottery and poker styled casinos

The RGS should be able to integrate into more complicated systems such as:

  • Sports betting software
  • Lottery fulfillment services
  • Poker applications

These systems will want to use remote authentication and wallets.

Our advise would be to use a third party RGS system to gain independence from game provider systems acting as RGS systems. The purpose of this is to avoid being reliant on your game provider to manage your casino especially if you wish to move away from them at some future date.

License requirements

The RGS system is regulated under the gambling licensing jurisdiction of the underlying casino (if any).

In many instances, the RGS will need to be licensed under a type of “manufacturers license” which obliges the system be written according to a set of codified standards.

I have outlined three jurisdictions for your perusal:

Curacao license software requirements

If you run your remote casino business under a Curacao license, then no specific regulations to the RGS casino software you use.

UK License software requirements

RGS providers in the UK must hold a remote gambling software license in order to offer RGS services to UKGC licensed casinos.

South Africa software requirements

RGS providers holding a South African license must hold a manufacturers license in order to offer services to licensed casinos in the region as outlined in the gaming supplier regulations.

What does it cost?

You will be in for a number of costs when using a third party RGS systems such as hosting, software license and commissions on gross gaming revenue (GGR).

Here is a typical cost outline:

  • Setup – €5,000 once off
  • Hosting – ~€500 per month
  • License – ~ €1,000 per month
  • GGR: 2%
